COVID-19 has brought destruction across the world, especially to the most vulnerable. Many refugees have faced financial hardships and lost loved ones because of COVID-19. However, despite these hardships, the refugees we support are strong, resilient, and always depend on their faith to get them through difficult times.
Even with their incredible strength spirits were low and hope was needed. Thanks to Cascade Hills Church in Georgia, we were able to provide that hope! Through this generous donation, we were able to build the Cascading Hope Wood Workshop at the Olive Tree Center in Madaba, Jordan. This project was led by refugee men for refugee men. Many of the refugee men are highly skilled in carpentry, electricity, and other trades. They have not been able to use these skills for a while and were very grateful they were able to use these skills to construct the wood workshop. The wood workshop is now built thanks to the hard work of the men in the refugee in community!
29-year-old Saemon expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to work on the workshop: “Mentally, working at the wood workshop at the Olive Tree Center will be an outlet for me – it will relieve me of my stress. As Iraqis, we have a lot of pride and dignity, but living as refugees much of that has been taken away and it is very difficult. This workshop will make a difference and be very positive for all Iraqi men – to work in a place where we are encouraged, comfortable, and respected will take so much of our daily stress away.”
